Compton Construction Hours Rules (2026): What You Need to Know

Compton's Municipal Code restricts construction noise to protect residents from disturbance during early morning, evening, and weekend hours. Construction, demolition, excavation, grading, and alteration or repair of any building or structure are permitted Monday through Friday from 7 AM to 7 PM and on Saturdays from 8 AM to 5 PM. All construction activity is prohibited on Sundays and holidays observed by the City of Compton. These restrictions apply to both residential zones and commercial or industrial zones located within 500 feet of a residential use.

The ordinance covers all noise-producing activities associated with construction work, including but not limited to the operation of power saws, drills, jackhammers, pile drivers, concrete mixers, and similar equipment. Delivery of construction materials by heavy trucks is also restricted to permitted hours when the delivery site is adjacent to residential property. Contractors are responsible for ensuring that all subcontractors and material suppliers comply with the permitted hours of operation.

Compton's building activity has increased as redevelopment and infill housing projects have expanded throughout the city. The construction hours restrictions help balance development activity with the quality of life for existing residents in neighborhoods undergoing change. Emergency repairs to water, sewer, gas, or electrical utilities are exempt from the hours restriction when authorized by the city's Public Works Department or when an immediate hazard exists. Public infrastructure projects contracted by the City of Compton may also operate outside normal hours with City Council authorization.
