Downey Construction Hours Rules (2026): What You Need to Know

Downey Municipal Code restricts construction noise to specific daytime hours to protect residential neighborhoods. Construction, demolition, grading, excavation, and repair activities that generate noise are permitted Monday through Friday from 7 AM to 7 PM and Saturdays from 8 AM to 5 PM. All construction work is prohibited on Sundays and federal holidays.

These restrictions apply equally to professional contractors and homeowners performing do-it-yourself projects. Equipment such as jackhammers, pile drivers, saws, drills, and heavy machinery must comply with the permitted hours. Emergency repairs to public utilities and infrastructure are exempt from the hour restrictions.
