Burbank Height Limits Rules (2026): What You Need to Know

The Burbank Zoning Code establishes fence, wall, and hedge height regulations based on the setback area where the fence is located. In required front yard setback areas, fences, walls, and hedges are limited to a maximum height of 3.5 feet (42 inches), measured from the adjacent sidewalk grade or natural ground level. In required side yard and rear yard setback areas, the maximum height is 6 feet.

Corner lots are subject to additional restrictions in the sight-line triangle area near intersections to maintain visibility for pedestrians and motorists. Within the sight-line triangle (typically measured 25 feet along each property line from the corner), fences, walls, and hedges must not exceed 3 feet in height. Any fence or wall exceeding 6 feet in height requires a building permit from the Building Division. Masonry, concrete block, and stucco walls exceeding 3.5 feet in height require engineered structural drawings. Barbed wire and razor wire are prohibited in residential zones. Electrified fences are prohibited in all zones except as approved for specific industrial or institutional uses. Height is measured from the finished grade on the higher side of the fence.
