Santa Monica RV & Boat Parking Rules (2026): What You Need to Know

Santa Monica's parking regulations under SMMC Chapter 3.08 impose strict limits on oversized vehicle parking, reflecting the city's dense residential neighborhoods and limited street space. Vehicles exceeding 22 feet in length or 7 feet in height are prohibited from parking on residential streets at any time. Unlike some neighboring cities, Santa Monica does not offer temporary parking permits for oversized vehicles on residential streets.

RVs, campers, boats on trailers, and other oversized recreational vehicles must be stored in enclosed garages, on private driveways where they do not encroach on the sidewalk or street, or at approved off-site storage facilities. Commercial vehicles exceeding 10,000 lbs gross vehicle weight rating are prohibited from parking on residential streets between 10 PM and 6 AM. The city actively enforces these restrictions through regular parking enforcement patrols. Vehicles in violation are subject to citation and towing at the owner's expense.
