Livermore Street Parking Limits Rules (2026): What You Need to Know

The City of Livermore establishes on-street parking regulations through its Municipal Code and the locally adopted provisions of the California Vehicle Code. On residential streets throughout the city, all vehicles are subject to a 72-hour parking time limit. Any vehicle that remains parked in the same location on a public street for more than 72 consecutive hours without being moved may be marked, cited, and ultimately towed pursuant to California Vehicle Code Section 22651(k). This regulation applies to all vehicles regardless of registration status and is a primary enforcement tool for addressing abandoned or long-term stored vehicles in residential neighborhoods.

Downtown Livermore — centered on First Street between Maple Street and L Street — is the city's primary retail, dining, and entertainment district, home to numerous wine tasting rooms, restaurants, boutiques, and cultural venues. The downtown area features time-limited parking zones, typically posted as 2-hour maximums during business hours, to ensure adequate parking turnover for the district's customers and visitors. After business hours and on certain holidays, time limits may be relaxed depending on posted signage. Several municipal parking lots in the downtown area provide additional public parking, some with their own posted time limits.

Street sweeping is conducted on a regular schedule throughout Livermore's residential neighborhoods. Posted signs on each block indicate the specific day and time window during which vehicles must be cleared for sweeping operations. Failure to move a vehicle during the posted street sweeping window results in a parking citation. Residents are responsible for knowing the sweeping schedule for their block and moving their vehicles accordingly.

Standard California Vehicle Code parking rules apply throughout Livermore: vehicles may not park within 15 feet of a fire hydrant, within a marked crosswalk, in front of a driveway, in a red zone, or in a marked disabled parking space without a valid placard or plate. Parking on the wrong side of the street (facing against the direction of traffic) is also prohibited.
