Glendale Burn Bans Rules (2026): What You Need to Know

As part of the South Coast Air Basin, Glendale is subject to the SCAQMD's "Check Before You Burn" program. From November through the end of February each year, the SCAQMD may declare No-Burn Days when fine particulate matter (PM2.5) levels are forecast to reach unhealthy levels. On these days, a 24-hour ban on wood burning applies to all fireplaces, wood stoves, fire pits, chimineas, and outdoor fireplaces throughout the South Coast Air Basin, including all of Glendale.

Glendale's location adjacent to the Verdugo Mountains and within Los Angeles County makes fire safety a particularly important concern. The city is bordered by Burbank, Pasadena, and Los Angeles, all of which are subject to the same SCAQMD restrictions. During periods of high fire danger, CAL FIRE may also impose additional burning restrictions beyond the SCAQMD seasonal program.

Devices using natural gas or propane are generally exempt from No-Burn Day restrictions because they do not produce the fine particulate matter emissions associated with wood burning. Residents can check the daily burn status on the SCAQMD website, call 1-866-966-3293, or sign up for email and text alerts. Violation of No-Burn Day restrictions is enforced by SCAQMD and may be reported through local fire departments.
